Nine Islands Azores

Welcome to Nine Islands, a local’s deep dive into Portugal’s untamed archipelago.

From the misty crater lakes of São Miguel and volcanic vineyards of Pico to the dramatic fajãs of São Jorge and the otherworldly waterfalls of Flores, each of the nine islands has its own rhythm, its own tales, its own raw and ravishing landscape.

This site provides detailed information to help visitors and new residents navigate all nine islands, but it’s much more than that. It's a growing body of information on the islands' history, flora, fauna, cuisine, culture, local legends and stories and even weather quirks—basically all that shapes life here. No other site out there has done this...until now.

So this site is for slow travelers and would-be islanders but also for nature lovers, dreamers, and anyone drawn to places that still feel like the edge of the world.

Let's dive in, shall we?
